The Staff Division is responsible for the FSVO’s legal and political business. It steers strategic planning and is in charge of language services.
The Legal Affairs sector is responsible for all legal issues and proceedings within the FSVO’s area of responsibility. It plans and processes legislative projects, popular initiatives and other items of parliamentary business of an essentially legal nature. Providing legal advice to FSVO sectors and the Executive Board is just as much part of its core duties as assessing legal issues associated with digitalisation, data protection and freedom of information.
The Political Affairs sector supports and advises the Executive Board on dealing with and steering items of Federal Council, Federal Department or Federal Office business. In consultation with specialists, it reviews opinions prepared by other Federal Offices and Departments and prepares procedural requests for debate in Parliament. Drafting replies for the General Secretariat on matters such as stakeholder issues and preparing specialist information for the Department Chair are also part of its duties.
The Strategy and Governance sector assists the Executive Boards of the FSVO and the Institute for Virology and Immunology (IVI) on strategy development and steering. It also manages the strategic planning and reporting process, is responsible for quality and risk management and coordinates the Federal Office’s ISO certification. The procurement unit is also part of this sector. This advises the Divisions on procurement matters and is responsible for legally compliant, efficient procurement.
The Languages sector is responsible for ensuring that the FSVO is able to communicate promptly with its contacts in their preferred language. It provides translations and quality assurance for all language services. The sector uses innovative events to contribute to the promotion of multilingualism and helps encourage the timely use of new technology and terminology.
