About us

The main task of the FSVO is to actively promote the health and well-being of humans and animals. The central pillars of this approach are food safety and healthy eating for humans, and animal health and welfare for animals.

Organisation

The FSVO is organised into specialist departments. Together with the Director, the heads of these departments make up the Executive Board.

Federal Food Chain Unit (FFCU) (in French)

The FFCU supports the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) and the FSVO in supervising the implementation of legislation in the areas of plant health, food and feed, animal diseases and animal welfare.

IVI (in French)

The Institute of Virology and Immunology (IVI) is a research institute under the aegis of the FSVO. It is the Swiss reference laboratory for the diagnosis, surveillance and monitoring of highly contagious animal diseases.

Swiss Veterinary Service

The FSVO and the cantonal veterinary offices maintain coordinated, structured cooperation in the field of public veterinary services. The Swiss Veterinary Service actively promotes the health and well-being of humans and animals.

Committees (in French)

The BLV works with various committees in order to integrate expert knowledge into the development of legislative bases, into evaluations, or into training for enforcement bodies.
