Protective measures for imports from third countries

In case of a disease outbreak or other risks, additional restrictions or bans will be introduced for animals and animal products from third countries.

Protective measures take priority over and apply in addition to the import conditions that are normally in effect and/or to permits that have already been issued.

See the “List of countries and protective measures” document further down for information on current restrictions and bans for animals and animal products.

The Commission of the European Union (EU) has determined that certain animal feeds and foods of non-animal origin from third countries must be controlled more intensively at defined points of entry on the external border of the EU.
