Investigation manuals for disease outbreaks linked to food and shower or bath water

The website is composed of the platform ‘Investigation of disease outbreaks linked to food and shower or bath water’. It is aimed at employees of cantonal and federal authorities. The FSVO provides documents for investigating and managing incidents.

You too can use the platform ‘Investigation of disease outbreaks linked to food and shower or bath water’ (ALEK)

This short video shows what the platform is for using the example of an investigation into a foodborne disease outbreak.

How the content on ALEK is structured:

  • The manuals explain the key principles in investigating foodborne disease outbreaks and describe the relevant procedures.
  • The practical guides are compact instruction manuals and summarise the key content from the manuals.
  • The resources include forms, checklists, templates and other aids. They are numbered and are listed in the manuals and practical guides with the same numbering.

Manuals

The following manuals are designed to help identify foodborne disease outbreaks (scenarios 1 to 4) and outbreaks linked to shower or bath water (scenario 5) and to manage them promptly, effectively and efficiently. They can also be used for outbreaks caused by chemical substances.

Legionella and legionnaires’ disease recommendation modules

The recommendations help minimise the risks associated with legionella and reduce cases of illness. The individual modules are aimed at implementing authorities, building owners and plumbers, among others.

Practical guides

The practical guides summarise the stages of an investigation into disease outbreaks. Detailed explanations can be found in the relevant manual for the scenario in question.
